Excuses, Exodus, and Aldershof

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, been busy and not very motivated (which isn't a good combination). Last week I did manage to see (not necessarily in this order): Exodus, Goatwhore, Warbringer, Every Time I Die, From First to Last, August Burns Red, Human Abstract, and another one I can't remember. The first three were one show and the rest were at another. To complete the hat trick, this weekend I will be seeing Fu Manchu (!!), ASG, and Savoiurs.

I don't know a lot about these guys other than they fancy some odd time signatures.

If this song doesn't make you a believer, I will have to insist on an autopsy. I think that good music must be at least partly due to genetics. Or could it be the nurture side? Either way, Dave Davies passed on a set of musical cajones the size of Saturn. His son Daniel is stellar. That is the bassist from Karma to Burn and the drummer from Third Eye Blind, if you were curious.

I am on the fence with these guys. In some songs, the singer sounds like John Garcia. I kind of like that. What I'm not sure about is the lyrics. C'mon. Summer rain? Is the song about a stripper or actual rain?

According to this blog, Last.fm has decided to allow streaming of full tracks AND albums. It looks to be a temporary thing, so use it while it lasts.

monkey3

I think that monkey3 lean a bit in the prog direction, but they are all stellar musicians nonetheless. Their site has some good verbage:

Monkey3 started during the year 2001 as a musicians' community dedicated to jam-sessions. The overall intonations of this improvisations, due to everybody's influences, was in a stoner-rock vibe. Attracted by this experience, the band was finally formed as a quartet, Picasso - Bass, Walter - Drums, Boris - Guitar and Mister M. - Sampler & Keys, and decided to create its own musical world.

Leave it to a bunch of studio geeks to make something really cool like this. I think that if Tool and Pink Floyd had a love child, it would be monkey3. I would really like to know how the kick drum head works.

February and March are looking like the end to the dry spell of good shows here in the greater Spokanistan metro area. Ministry, Fu Manchu, Every Time I Die, ASG, Saviours, Exodus and some assorted openers. I think that I am the most excited about the Fu Manchu show. It is at the BLVD here in Spokane. It is on a Sunday, so the bar area of this all ages show might be a little sparser people-wise.

To keep you enthused about the bands I am going to go see in the next couple of months, I will post some stuff from most of them here. I'll start off with some ASG.

Update: I must have done something right. Someone from Volcom thinks that Valient Thorr are worth looking at on my little blog. Valient Himself thinks that Volcom should treat The 27th of Never to some promo material in order for Nil to review it.

These guys are my new heroes. Not just anyone can pull off cymbal chokes by both guitarists and the bass player. Their live shows look like fun.
